Lagos is not particularly high end, but it is one of the most beautiful cities in Portugal. I spent a few weeks in Lagos, travelling solo, posted up in the Big Chill Hostel. I spent my days on Praia Dona Ana reading books and going for long runs along the cliffside through Ponta da Piedade. My friend Wes, from Delaware, came out to visit for a long weekend and we went on a bar crawl with out hostel and taught them beer pong.

I have visited my godparents at their villa in Vale do Lobo a few times. Vale do Lobo is a luxury golf resort that boasts pristine landscaping and amenities, Michelin star restaurants nearby and a jetset crowd. It is significantly more upscale than Lagos, but it lacks the stunning landscape that you see in Lagos.
